May 2, 2005

By Harry Douglas

6-11 CF Jonathan Mandelove of Shiloh High School is a Class 2005 player who signed with VCU, but will return to prep school player.  Mandelove will be a 5th year senior who would probably would never see VCU. Mandelove is playing exceptionally well this Spring and is one of the better big-man who has major schools watching him.

6-5 GF JaJuan Jones of Douglas High School is a Penny Hardaway type of player.  JaJuan moved from the state of Ohio.  Look out for this young man.

6-8 PF Jordan Hill of North Springs High School is a big timer who has nice size.  He is still learning the game, but you can see his potential.  Hill is originally from South Carolina.  Hill runs the floor well, rebounds, blocks shots and is effective around the basket.  Hill will continue to improve throughout the year.

6'7" Korvotney Barber is a man child who has the total package.  This physical wing forward is a human highlight reel.  Barber has a vertical jump of 42".  He can score, rebound and block shots.  Barber averages 24 ppg, 15 rpg, 4 bpg for his 27-5 Manchester team.  Barber has just began to come on the scene, but know that college coaches across the country already knows about him.  Hopefully he would  not be overlooked.  Barber sustained an injury, but before he went down, his play was phenomenal.  He's Ranked Nationally # 16 by Youth Prep Stars Recruiting Magazine.

Louis Williams is the State of Georgia Top Player.  Williams AAU team has won two major events early this spring and Williams contributed greatly to the success.  Williams has already committed to Georgia, which makes him more loose to play and not be concerned with recruiting.  Williams averaged 28 ppg and led South Gwinnett High School to the State Championship.  Williams AAU team won three major events this summer.  Williams was the best player.

Uriah Hethington is a physical combo forward who has a nice jumper from 12 to 15 feet.  He's very explosive and has a big force around the basket and in traffic.  He averages 16 ppg, 13 rpg and 6 bpg.  He led his Cairo High School to the State Final Four.

Mike Mercer is a long, lanky guard who has continued to play very well.  During this spring,  Mercer was very explosive.  He has committed to Georgia.  Mercer needs to improve on his jump shot, but he has big time potential.

Octavious Spann is a wing forward who is very athletic.  He also has nice size.

Rashard Chase is a very strong and athletic player with a lot of potential.  He has been off to a slow star this spring.  He led his Mays High School team to the State Championship.  He averaged 20 ppg, 11 rpg and 3 bpg.  Rashard finished strong this summer.  He led his Celtics team to the Adidas Super 64 Championship in Las Vegas.

Lance Cannon is a big-time "Sleeper."  He's a pure athlete from Randolph Clay, home of Donnell Harvey.  Cannon has started off very well this spring for the Atlanta Celtics.  This 6'4" wing forward is very active around the basket and rebounds well.

Charles Jackson is a beast who loves contact.  He has nice size and uses his body very well.  He also has nice hands and good foot work.  He is a big-time player.

Georgia High School Basketball

By Youth Prep Stars Staff

Editor- Harry Douglas

Youth Prep Stars Recruiting Magazine is the best hoops report in Georgia. No other services cover the state and follow the players like we do. This is our sixth year and each year the competition gets better. We have covered over ten major events this year. The Class of 2004 showed the nation this past spring and summer that Georgia has the best players. In Georgia High School Hoops top Georgia candidate for Georgia Mr. Basketball are 6’11" Dwight Howard, 6’2" Toney Douglas, 6’11" Randolph Morris, 6’4" Channing Toney, 6’3" Clifford Hammonds, 6’8" Josh Smith who departed from Georgia to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and junior Louis Williams. We strongly believe that the award should always go to a senior because the underclassman has next year.

Dwight Howard wears the shoes that Kwame Brown wore three years ago in Georgia. Howard will enter the NBA out of high school and many feel that would grant him Georgia Mr. Basketball. Toney Douglas will be a big force. Douglas will repeat what 6’3" Vincent Banks did last year. Douglas will put up big numbers so hold to your seat. This will get interesting. Wheeler and Jonesboro played for 5-A State Championship last year and Wheeler was 5-A State Champions for two consecutive years. Wheeler won’t be a three-peat.

This year will be interesting. Our staff picks Chattahoochee, Savannah, Lovejoy, Jonesboro, Houston County, Campbell, Norcross, South Gwinnett, Lithonia and Savannah Beach as the top 10 teams. Campbell should be the best Cobb County team with seven returning players (Jay Anderson and Galen Gardenwhite). Wheeler will be in the mix. Chattahoochee should be the best Fulton county team with eight returning players (Anthony Fisher and Greg Manning). South Gwinnett and Norcross should be the best Gwinnett County team with Louis Williams and Mike Mercer; and Norcross Jason Croly and Archie Midway. Coming behind is Berkmar with Wynton Witherspoon and Stephen Davis. Jonesboro should be the best Clayton County team with 6’2" Toney Douglas, 7’6" Darrell Robertson, 6’1" Jamal Lewis, 6’5" Kenneth Harris; and Lovejoy right behind with 6’3" Michael Sloan, 5’10" Dashon Pryer and 6’6" Joseph Ayers. Riverdale Coach Dave Boyd will be a force with 6’6" Michael wisdom. Lithonia leads the pack for Dekalb County with 6’9" Robert Dozier, SW Dekalb LaBRez Barber and Stephenson with 6’2" Bryant Murry and 6’6" Derek Floyd. This region will be a dogfight.

Savannah Rules the Ivory Coast. Coach Tim Jordan Blue Jackets could cut the nets down this year with 6’2" PG Mike Wingster, 6’3" Marlon Brown, 7’0" Joe Fincher and 6’0" Greg Sanders. Savannah has twelve players returning. South Georgia Lowndes will be the leader of the pack with seven returning players including 6’9" junior Terrence Vinson. However, Tift County Coach Tommy Blackshears will be in the mix along with Valdosta who has ten returning players. In middle Georgia, Houston County will be the king with 6’9" Daniel Northern. Coach Nix has ten returning players plus all starters who were one game from the Final Four.

Class 4-A- Griffin and South Atlanta played for the championship with Griffin coming out on top. This year Douglas County has nine returning players with 6’7" Ralph Jenning. Cairo Coach Ike Chance has eight returning players including 6’3" Clifford Hammonds and 6’9" Urian Hethington. Statesboro Coach Lee Hill has for the past five years been a state contender. Statesboro has nine returning players including 6’0" Kenny Chavers. Defending Champs Griffin Bears Coach Ferris Qualls has seven returning including 6’6" Jay Brown, 6’5" Jeremy Hightower and 6’4" Carlos Mitchell. The Bears will be a force. Butler of August Coach Rod Johnson has a pretty good team with 6’7" Scott Edwards and 6’4" Levert Carter. Mays will be tough with 6’8" Rashad Chase, 6’5" Brandon Emerson, 4’6" Little D and 6’4" Calvin Booker. Chamblee’s Paul Delaney will compete. South Atlanta Coach Reddick has seven returning players with 6'6" Kudus Ogbra, 5'10" Montrell Christian and 6'0" Marcus Sarden.  Cedar Shoals Jaguers will bring it again this year with nine returning players that are from the Final-Four Team. Creekside and Westlake will be a force. Coach Floyd McRae has 6’9" Gary Spring, 6’3" Quavious Brown and Coach Daron Rodgers has 6’9" Courtney Abbott and 6’1" Emmanuel Spann. Bannekar will be the class of Metro Atlanta in Class 4-A with 6’9" Tay Spann. Coach Betha has a lot to smile about this year.

Our staff has covered some of your high school hoops. Mr. Douglas has been a hoop junkie for years and he knows most of the players. Many college coaches listen to him because he knows his stuff. Youth Prep Stars Recruiting Magazine Motto is "Building Today’s Youth for Tomorrow." Coaches, parents and players, if you want a player’s name to be known to college coaches, please email player profile and statistics after games. Profile includes Name, Address, Phone #, SAT/ACT Score, Position, Height, Weight and High School.
