2008 Bob Gibbons TOC

By Harry Douglas

The Atlanta Celtics captured the 17Under National Division  at the Bob Gibbons TOC at Dean E. Smith Center  in Chapel Hill, NC.  In the Semi-Final, there was some drama.  The Celtics lost their big man Derrick Favors that was thrown out of the game for an elbow against Indiana Elite player.  But Favors came back in the championship game and put on a show with several rim rocking dunks by catching them off the rim and smashing them down.  Let's just say, Favors redeemed himself and was named the tournament's MVP.  His performance was one that would be remembered for a long time.  Favors scored 20 points with 13 rebounds.  The Celtics also got some solid performance from  Trae Golden who scored 16 points and Andre Malone scored 14 points.  Team Breakdown Kenny Boynton scored 29 points.  The Celtics also got some great performance from  6-9 Robert Chubb, 6-9 Brian Cole and 6-5 Mammy Atkins.

The King James Shooting Stars of Georgia Won the Select Division.  The Stars beat up on the NY Gauchos.  6-8 PF Tony Parker played great the entire tournament.  6-0 PG Shannon Scott was awesome.  Scott ran the team very well and he's one of the top PG Nationally and in Georgia.  He can also score and create off the dribble.  Dai-jon Parker was the MVP, another combo guard to keep your eye on.
